On-line Counseling

I currently provide online (secure video, phone and text-based messaging) services to individuals in Indiana.  This means that I can provide counseling to you if you are physically in the state of Indiana during the counseling session.

The online counseling I provide is safe and secure, and provides several options to tailor the best  way for us to interact, including online messaging, phone calls and video chats that provide a face-to-face experience that is very similar to in-person counseling.

Is Online Counseling Right For You?
YES (if the following apply to you):

-You are at least 16 years old.

-You are seeking individual counseling.

-You are in the state of Indiana while the counseling session takes place.

-You can cope with the inherent imperfection of technology and the internet.  You may get frustrated, but it does not ruin your day.

-You are not feeling suicidal and do not have a history of suicidal intent.

(Suicidal means you are considering ending your own life.) If this is an emergency, call 911.  If you are feeling suicidal, please know that help is available via in-person counseling and online resources like National Suicide Prevention Lifeline  that can be reached at 1-800-273-8255.

NO (if the following apply to you):

-You are under the age of 16.

-You are not in the state of Indiana during the counseling session.

-You have reason to believe someone might be eavesdropping on your computer and/or phone communications.  Although uncommon, this can happen, particularly in cases of abuse (verbal, physical, sexual, mental, etc.), untrusting relationships, and separation/divorce.

-You are very easily frustrated by technology, potentially slow connections, occasional glitches, etc.  If something goes wrong with technology during a counseling session, you feel it could ruin your day.

-You are considering harming yourself or someone else, or have seriously considered and/or attempted this in the past.

Why I Don't Accept Every Insurance

During my experience as a therapist, I have become familiar with some unfortunate limitations that are imposed upon the counselor and the client(s) by insurance.

  • Some insurance companies limit the number and frequency of counseling sessions, which often leads to clients not getting the optimum level of therapy for their particular set of issues or conditions.

  • Session length and frequency is heavily regulated which can interfere with the barriers progression of treatment and impede progress.

  • Insurance companies require the therapist to confirm a specific mental health diagnosis in order to bill (and receive payment) for each session. This can lead to an unnecessary focus on a label or status that may create negative feelings or confusion. While diagnoses can be very helpful in some treatment experiences, it is wonderful to have the freedom in treatment to only apply a diagnosis when truly appropriate!
